Every so often some poor sap is tasked with coming up with braai tips for a blog post or campaign. More often than not, the sap in question doesn’t even own a braai, and instead of telling their boss they have no clue they scour the Internet and rehash of the same old tips & tricks and even try to pass off ill-informed myths as braai genius. So after the huge success of Bring en Braai Season 1, KykNet have agreed to a 2nd and 3rd season of Thys Die Bosvedklong’s braai show – Bring & Braai, and I was fortunate enough to be invite to be a guest in season 2 again. What an awesome time we had!
Filming took place in Sable Hills a little North of Pretoria and saw 2 contestants up against each other for a spot in the final and the coveted Bring & Braai trophy and title of South Africa’s Ultimate Braai Master.
Bring en Braai – Behind the scenes
Unfortunately you’re all going to be at my Birthday celebrations when the show airs… so make sure you’ve got your PVR set for tomorrow (Friday 27th) @ 19h30 on KykNet. Repeats: Saturday 15h30, Sunday 04h00 & 09h00, Monday 01h00, Tuesday 16h30 – Check the Bring & Braai website for more info, recipes etc.
What do you get when you pit braaimasters against each other in contest and promise the winner some awesome prizes? Well, some great tasting meat of course and also the plot for Thys die BosveldKlong‘s new TV show: Bring & Braai.
“Bring en Braai” is the first braai competition done for SA television. In each episode 2 contestants braai a starter, main course and dessert. Each contestant is given free reign as to what they want to prepare (as long as they don’t use gas or electricity). The show sees Thys (the show’s presenter) and the contestants along with some guest judges cruise the country (and sometimes even neighbouring countries) in search of adventure – and of course the ultimate braaimaster.
I was fortunate enough to be invited to join the guys on the episode that was filmed at the Voortrekker monument as a guest judge and show off some braai skills of my own. Follow me on FaceBook or Twitter and I’ll let you know when the episode with me in it will be showing.

Update Apr 2012: Thys and the guys invited me to hang out with them Season 2 again – Check it out here: Bring En Braai – Season 2
If I were a cat I’d definitely have used up 8 of my 9 lives already… and thank goodness a couple of “Good Fellas” came across my path recently, so now I have a good chance of making that 9th life last a little longer.
I think it’s been established that I REALLY like to braai, and like most South Africans whenever there’s a braai, there’s a good chance you’ll find a couple of Beers, Ricky Louw’s, Klippies & Coke and all their friends. Now all this braaing & drinking inevitably leads to a lot of drinking and driving… I myself have been guilty of it many times. The fact that I’ve only been locked up once is a miracle and something I’m definitely not proud of. Since my little incident many years back, I’ve got no trouble handing the keys over to my wife after the party and she drives us home, but what do I do when she’s not around? Well… I drove home drunk of course. So why am I telling you all of this? And, who are these guys that are going to save my 9th life? I introduce you to “Good Fellas – The Smart Way Home” (www.gfellas.co.za).
Good Fellas have been around for quite some time now, and they offer to take you home, in your own car, so you don’t end up leaving it at a mates place/pub and sitting with a hangover (and no car) the next morning. But it seems we’ve been a bit reluctant in South Africa to take them up on their wonderful offer (myself included), but as of today, I’m proud to say that I’ve now got a designated driver on call!
Please go check these guys out and sign up, and whenever someone offers you “one for the road”… feel free to have two! 🙂
Actually I can: I need to eat every cheap jerseys day and I love to braai, so why not braai instead of cooking tamilnadu food in an oven or microwave, or ordering it from the local take-away? What I REALLY can’t believe is that it’s taken me this long to cheap nba jerseys launch BraaiBoy.co.za, especially since one of my day Auction jobs revolve around developing web sites and web applications. I guess it’s a case of the shoemaker’s kids not having any shoes???
Anyway, I’ve been promising everyone that I’d have the site launched (shortly after cheap nba jerseys starting my quest) and they could follow my adventures as I went along… and wholesale nfl jerseys I finally made good on that promise 🙂
The site is still far from “complete”, but if I waited until I was entirely happy with it, I was never all-new going to get around to it. The biggest thing I’m working on right now is collating 14 months’ worth of images, labeling them and uploading it (a couple of GB’s worth :-)) onto Flickr. Once that’s done, I’ll be adding some recipes, jokes (if I can remember them), even a video or two of some cool party tricks that you can use at your next braai, and of course some random ramblings of me and my adventures.
So folks, here’s a toast to BraaiBoy.co.za going live… go out and tell all your friends, and please feel free to keep coming back for more.
